Airport Woes & The Great Gatsby!

I'm currently sitting at the airport with my Nana (who is wrapped up in a crossword) waiting for the next few hours for our flight out to Tulsa. I'll be spending a few days with my family and helping out my mom since my dad is sick. We finally got the results from all his tests and it turns out he doesn't have lymphoma, he has kidney cancer. While the results are scary at least now he can start tackling it.

I've been here since 5:30. Why so earlier when my flight isn't till 9:50? Kris's flight left at 7 back to Oregon. We had such a good time while he was here. We ate at all our favorite places, went on a long hike in Mt Charleston, went swimming in the pool for the first time this year (it's finally hit 100 degree weather!), bbqed with family on Mother's Day, and saw The Great Gatsby!

By the way, Happy Belated Mother's Day to all of you! I hope all you mom's out there got spoiled rotten. Nana sure did. Kris and I surprised her with flowers and delicious cheesecake from Freed's Bakery. We also grilled at my Aunt's house and Nana exclaimed, and I quote directly, "I'm getting sauced for Mother's Day." Good times people.

There's much more to tell but for now I just need to get into this. You guys.... I LOVED The Great Gatsby! It seriously might be one of my new favorite movies and totally renewed my love for DiCaprio. I thought it was beautifully done and Leo portrayed Gatsby to perfection. I just feel like some of the haters either don't understand the story (or didn't read the book) and let me clarify... The Great Gatsby isn't suppose to be a love story. It's a story about the parallel of the American Dream and about that time period. I've been seeing a few friends on Facebook saying "Oh, they didn't really love each other it wasn't good" and I want to shake them and say "That's the whole point!" Either way, I thought it was brilliant and I'm currently obsessed with the soundtrack. We also saw it at the new Galaxy Theater that's recently opened up... Not only do they have a full bar but all the seats are leather recliners! It's the most comfortable thing ever!

Here are just some of the Gatsby thing's I'm loving at the moment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a flapper revival.

+Apparently Jay Gatsby has his own Twitter account. Hilarious.
+ Lana Del Rey "Young & Beautiful", my favorite song off the soundtrack.

Ugh, gorgeous!

I already love headbands so this is an easy obsession for me. I want all of these headpieces!

Because who doesn't want to go to a Gatsby party?

There are so many great quotes from the book, here are just a few of my favorites.

No—Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

They’re a rotten crowd,” I shouted across the lawn. “You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.”

I’ve always been glad I said that. It was the only compliment I ever gave him, because I disapproved of him from beginning to end. First he nodded politely, and then his face broke into that radiant and understanding smile, as if we’d been in ecstatic cahoots on that fact all the time.

I like large parties, they’re so intimate. Small parties there’s no privacy.

Did you like The Great Gatsby and if so, who is your favorite character?

    1. Something with animals, honestly I haven't really decided yet I just want that degree in hand! Yes, i loved it... I get the feeling that a lot of critics didn't understand the book or even read it which explains a lot.
